Western Gulf Women's Basketball Season Opener Against Tyler Junior College Moved to University of St. Thomas JAAC Near Houston Museum District

Nassau Bay, TX – October 2, 2025 – The Western Gulf Women's basketball team is gearing up for an exciting start to their 2025-2026 season, but with a slight change in venue and time. WGC will still tip off their campaign against Tyler Junior College on Saturday, November 1, 2025, but at 4:00 PM instead of 2:00 PM and at the John D. Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center (JAAC); home of the University of St. Thomas Basketball program. Less than 30 miles from its home in Nassau Bay, WGC will kickoff the season with what is to be considered its first home opener to start the college basketball season. The highly anticipated matchup was previously set to take place at the Lee College Sports Arena in Baytown, TX.

The John D. Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center or The JAAC, was built in 1983 and serves students, faculty and staff. It is home to UST Volleyball and Basketball teams, as well as athletic administration offices. The 45,000 square-foot building has been recently renovated and has exciting new improvements. Amenities of The JAAC include a basketball court, lounge area, student-athlete lounge area, locker rooms, training room, swimming pool, sand volleyball courts, outdoor turf area, weight room, cardio room, dance studio, a meeting hall and offices. 

The clash between Western Gulf and Tyler Junior College is expected to be a competitive affair. Both teams are eager to start their season strong, and fans can anticipate an afternoon of physical and fast-paced basketball action. This opening game provides an early opportunity for supporters to see the new roster and assess the team's chemistry and strategy for the season ahead. The program, in its third season, has recruited an incoming freshmen class from many competitive programs around the Houston area and will be the program's largest roster of incoming freshmen in the program's brief history. Along with adding transfer players and a couple of returners, the program has built its most competitive team yet.

About Western Gulf Collegiate:
Western Gulf - Nassau Bay was founded in 2022 as an independent college basketball program. The first program established was the women's basketball team which opened its first season of play in 2023-2024. Founded by seasoned coaching veteran Terry Gray, who now serves as WGC's Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach, has coached from the high school to Division 1 college levels. Because of its independence, WGC can play opponents at any college level from D1 to NAIA to NJCAA teams while providing a competitive product and platform for its college athletes. Student athletes enjoy great flexibility in their academic options which means they can truly choose the best academic program to fit their needs while playing college athletics.
